On Monday I rode an elevator to the top of the “UFO”, an observation deck above the main bridge into the city. I’m always a sucker for high city views.
The bridge has two levels: the top is for cars, and the lower level is for pedestrians and bikes. Looking back at Bratislava, you can see an example river cruise boat on the left. I met some American folks who took the catamaran (just to the right of the cruise ship) in from Vienna for a day trip. To the right of the catamaran there is a multi-story boat that seems as if it might tip over at any moment! A couple from Washington state had just finished a Rick Steves tour that ended in Vienna, and one of them took a photo of me. In the middle distance you can see rows upon rows of old Communist-era apartment buildings. Colleen and I saw these in 1998 on our drive through, but they’ve since been painted bright colors to spruce them up a bit. The view of them really seared into my brain in ’98, and not in a good way. You can see the UFO tower rising above the trees to the left, along with the city castle to the right. An example of the excess pieces of paper one tends to get in Central Europe for one purchase.
Today’s limerick:
There is a bridge with a tall tower The castle nearby projects power Parted by the Danube Visited by this noob On this city it's hard to sour.
Today’s dad joke: What is a cabbage salad recipe from Bratislava called?
“Cole Slav”
Today’s travel quote:
All the pathos and irony of leaving one’s youth behind is thus implicit in every joyous moment of travel: one knows that the first joy can never be recovered, and the wise traveler learns not to repeat successes but tries new places all the time.

Some years ago Cindy and I were on one of those river cruise ships in Bratislava.
Very cool. Also, that’s a long paper trail; CVS would fit in well there.
But at least CVS’s is all one, instead of three separate pieces. I recently got so tired of waiting for Ingles foot-long receipts to print out that I took to ripping them off before they were done printing, after the important info was on there. But once I ripped too enthusiastically and broke open the printer and caused a failure that someone had to come and resolve. Oops!
Haha! That sounds like something I would do. CVS has nicely come out with an option to email the receipt or forego it entirely recently – though the one time I chose no receipt, we had purchased the wrong product and ended up wishing we had it for a return.
I’d love to do one of those river cruises someday!
